Many people are surprised to learn that naturism is legal in Ireland. Since changes to the law in 2017, simply being naked in a public place is not, by itself, a criminal offence. An offence is committed only where a person intentionally exposes themselves to cause fear, distress or alarm, or engages in sexual activity or other offensive sexual behaviour in public.
That said, naturists should always use common sense and discretion. Be mindful of your surroundings, respect other people, and choose appropriate locations. While the legal position is now much clearer, other public order legislation may still apply depending on the circumstances.
